Adfywiad Interest Pubs for Patriots.

Before anyone thinks I am promoting the philosphy of the ''Pints Are Us Patriots'', forget it has you will be wrong. I have got no problem with anyone having a pint or two or more, every night of the week if you wish, after all I am not my brothers keeper. Over, the years I have drunk my fair share, and yes got drunk as often as not, although has one gets older, one gets more sensible, and now that the ''Diabetes has kicked in'', the drinking will all but come to a stop. Although it had anyway to all extent and purpose, giving up the fags, seemed to take the desire away from having a pint, plus my coffee intake went down too. However, working in certain catering jobs brings one close to alcahol, particularly in London, but it has been the history associated with London pubs that has encouraged me more than much else to occaisionally pub crawl around ''the borough'' (Southwark), Smithfield, Clerkenwell, Cheapside, Holborn and of course So Ho.

History lingers around the Inn's of these areas as much as the tobacco smoke did once upon a time, and as often as not it would be London's Welsh History, one could learn of. HHHhhhmmm!!! that sounds like a guide book to me, even a guided tour - A Patriotic Welsh Pub Crawl around London, but I will leave that to some one else, who would really enjoy the exercise of drinking whilst researching. This posting then is not one of making a virtue of alcahol consumption which for most ''Pint Pot Peripheral Patriots'' is a vice, but rather it's an historical tour around some pubs in Wales, though on occaision some are nought but a ''watering hole'' for refreshment prior to, or after a Commemoration, Rally or Parade. God forbid this will ever take you down the road of the ''Good Ole Boys'', who seem to remember their drinking bouts over the past 'half century' more than any Patriotic Activity they ever embarked upon, and now look forward more to 'WAKES' than ever the thought of again being involved in the struggle for Wales. They are the ones, be in no doubt, whom will have done little at all between the last two annual patriotic engagements in their lives, the annual Cilmeri Rally and now the annual 'Dydd Dewi Day' event in Caerdydd. No doubt they see the cause of making of this Saints day equal to the ''Paddy Day Piss Up'' carried out World Wide, somehow I see no particular virtue in a Saint David's day that went down that road, to ruination of any serious patriotic political struggle. I have more to work for, in my 'Adfywiad Gwaldgarol' than fill the pockets of publicans. However, relax, I am not yet a member of the Temperance Movement, or the ''Pioneers'', so hopefully, this posting will be as illuminating as calling in these ''Tafarnau Hanesyddol'' or just ''Watering Holes'', and will also be enjoyable. Not least of course if your out and about touring Cymru, first stop perhaps TAFARN LLYWELYN at CILMERI, where every year patriots gather to attend an annual commemoration march and rally, as the patriots below march back to the Inn for an evening of socialising over a pint or two, and a meal if that is your want?

Inside Tafarn Llywelyn, two fiddlers prepare to fiddle the night away, why it's Iestyn ap Steffan and Gareth Westacott, well known fiddlers who fiddle all over the land. Mind you dear Olwyn looks as if she's had enough of their fiddling, I know how she feels, cannot stand fiddles myself, when ever dear old friend Toni Lewis pulled out his fiddle I would make my escuses and leave.

Annwyl Gwladgarwyr, not wishing to labour the point about the mix of Patriotism and booze, I hope lessons will have been learnt, by all means socialise in pubs but do not hold your political meetings in pubs as Y Cyfamodwyr did, much to their regret later. If Welsh Patriots cannot separate themselves from a pint of beer for one afternoon to discuss matters of import then at least find your own local “Ty Cwrw Bach” (See at end).

Alcohol befuddles the brain and loosens the tongue.
Landlords owe their license to the good will of the police.
If you cannot be responsible for yourselves then think of others.

Why such concern, if your not an ''Insurrectionary'' or plotting to militantly muck up the designs of the Imperialists on our country? well to the English State everyone who is politically non – conformist is ''subversive dissedent'' and will be dealt with as such, in what ever way will become appropriate to occasion. Be in no doubt that the BRIT S.S. have their “Welch Watch” well stationed in Pubs. Now post 9/11 and 7/11 you can bet that they are really on their toes, the State Security Services are now fully pro – active in Cymru/Wales as in England. What the hell has this got to do with your Pacifist and Constitutional Movement? Quite simply that any security service worth it's salt has already ''got your number'' by various means but wants to know even more about you and your family, friends and political aquaintences?

I have recently researched notes by Gwyn Alf Williams, regards our really radical ''Insurrectionary Years'' 1831 - 1839, I tell you this, you would hardly credit how big Britains 'State Security Serveillance' was, even then, massive spying by means of infiltrators and informers, opening letters and massive use of police powers, for what? Yes! great interest in the 1831 Insurrectionists and the 'Tarw Scotch' but for the most part the overt and convert police operation was against the Chartists, a perfect legitimate democratic and largelly constitutional movement, well! apart from those ''Silurians'' of Gwent with their ideas of establishing as ''SILURIAN CHARTIST REPUBLIC''. So, get my point and do remember, when it came to the crunch on 'I-DAY'69', the authorities used their full powers to thwart all forms of democratic protest and demonstration and they will do so again, thus do not make it too easy for them, as meetings in pubs will, remember in Pubs it's not just the walls that have ears?

I urge you to accept some discipline in these matters as our Black Panther ''Brothers of the Ox'' in America would in avoiding “Whities Pubs”. Further you would do well to look to the American Indian Movement who even appoint their own security officers after years of “Fed” activity against them. I do not want to labour the point but even amongst Irish Republicanism there exists a strong Pioneering anti alcohol movement. I am not saying you ''sign the pledge'' but do recognise please these matters I am raising, and that there does exist this “Patriotic” Welsh big problem so why not deal with it. Serious politics and serious patriotic business does not mix with booze ok! Got that! Anyone whose been to Cilmeri should be well aware of this, Cilmeri must be the Brit S.S. favourite Jam Pot. Just keep this in mind, as if your ''Pissed'' it is so easy for their ''Informers'' and ''Agent Provocutuers'' to sidle up to you, buy you a pint and become your mate, for a while, just as SSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS did at Cyfamodwyr Meetings at ''Y Cwps' in Aberystwyth. Now on with the drinking..............

First stop 'CAYO ARMS' on Cathedral Road, Caerdydd. The only pub in Wales, Scotland and England named after a contemporary patriot rebel, Julian Cayo Evans, Commandant in Chief, FREE WALES ARMY. Before you go in for a pint, make sure you salute the memory of an old comrade and hero of the 'Adfywiad Gwladgarol Fawr 1962 - 69.

Also in Caerdydd, The Mochyn Ddu, off Cathedral Road, lots of 'CRACHACH' drink here, and it's here the ''Tartan Taffs'' gather for their annual 'Dydd Dewi Day' parade. That's two reasons why I do not drink there, but you might wish a ''look see'' and you might just catch Gareth Westacott, fiddling there which he does at least once a week, or so I am told, that will definatly keep me away. Just cannot stand fiddling, would much prefer to hear our 60's Patriotic Rebel Songs as wriiten by Harri Web and Meic Stephens, failing that, give me TANARIWEN, sounds Welsh but in fact they are Touareg. I am just not into Welsh Folk Music, nor 'Roc Cymraeg' very much either, although a few bands are good as ANWELEDIG, also Dewi Prysor is A-OK!

For those of you with a Jacobin persusion, try out the Bridgend Inn in Cwm Gwaun, where my patriotic years received babtism, The Aberqwaun Hotel, Abergwaun, where I first met Owen John Thomas and the now sadly depatred Patriot Actor Ray Smith. Most important do not miss out on the Royal Oak, for some French wine and lots of 'Vive La France', and ''Go To Hell Jemima''. Ideal for 14 July Celebrations.

Better pin on your 1831 Ribbon now, we are entering 'Radical Rebel' Territory with the following ''Watering Holes'' worth a visit, as follows: * The Football Club, formerly the Castle Hotel at Hirwaun where radical workers used to meet in the 19th century. * A Pub (?) in Cefn Coed y Cymmer, Cefn was the ''Barrio'' of the Workers Army in 1831. A Pub in Merthyr, do not know it's name either, but it his flying 'Baner Glyndwr' but it has also got the 'Three Feathers' stuck up out side?

In Caernarfon, there's The Black Boy Pub, but it has a lot of prints of the English Princes of Wales, stuck on the wall which would not sit well with patriots drinking their beer. Although many ''Nationalists'' use this pub, I would preferr a drink at The Vaults Pub at bottem of Twt Hill, atop of which Owain Glyndwr raised his 'Baner y Ddraig Aur' on 2 Tachwedd 1401.

* Accross the Border, way up to London (our first city?), why not visit The George Tavern (ignore the Union Jacks) in Southwark, also close by in area of 'The Borough Market' you will also find The Globe and The Market Porter Public Houses. The whole area abounds in a ''certain atmosphere'', with close by, the Thames, along side of which you will find a replica of The Globe Theatre. Plus your not to far from the walk bridge over to Saint Pauls and the great pubs around Smithfield Market, where you will also find the Wallace memorial.

* Other good pub areas of London are down Cheapside, in Clerkenwell, along high Holborn, up Ludgate Street and down Fleet Street and around Covent Garden and in So Ho for starters. That's the ''patch'' I know best, too many pubs to name but I will draw your attention to The Weatsheaf, Fitzrovia, at back of Oxford Street, close to the Totenham Court Road end. It's there Dylan Thomas got drunk, nothing unusual about that, accept so drunk, he got up on the table and pulled is not so 'patriotic plonker' out. There's a framed news cutting on the wall, that declares this to be an historical fact. I guess, he's not the last ''Taff'' to have done that in a London pub?

Below Photograph, is of a most ''luxarious'' of establishments, to describe this place as a mere Public House, Tafarn or Inn would be less than deserved. Here, one may drink and eat in the mose buetiful of esoteric surroundings, the decor alone throughout, not least the eroitc painting in the toilets are equisite creations to make one linger longer than needs be in such place of convienience. If you make more than three visit to the gents in a night, no one will accept the excuse of a ''Weak Bladder''. Sorry! but I cannot just provide the name of this establishment, to just anyone. No! you must be one of the ''Adfywiad Elite'' to know of this establihment, did I hear you say, you want to be one of the ''Elite'', well? You better get busy and make up to at least a dozen flags ready for the next 'Rali Cilmeri', go on get cracking!!!!!!!

That's enough of London, back to Cymru, and the delights of a Ty Cwrw Bach (see photo below), it is at this ancient establishment, we will see if your really do have the makings of being an 'Adfywiadwyr Gwlatgarol Gwir', or are you but doomed to be no more than a ''Pints Are Us - Good Ole Boy'' and ever trapped in the realm of ''Pint Pot Peripheral Patriotism''. Ever, to conclude the night on one's back looking at bewildering coloured patterns in the nights sky?

Picture: Ty Cwrw Bach, in it's better days, you should see it now! however, the beer is still good? but don't be tempted to dine there, and certainly do not book in for an overnight stay. Though if you have been sent there for ''induction'' into 'Adfywaid Gwladgarol Cymru', you really do not have much choice but to ''Tough Taff'' it OK!
